The Proclamation is a guide for the family to follow through with. It's in these principles regarding the family that our Father in Heaven promises us the blessings of a successful family. I come from a family where we discuss the doctrines in the proclamation. At home we have the Proclamation framed so that we can always see it and remember God's counsel to the family.
President Henry B. Eyring helps us understand the value of family relations, "A child hearing and believing the works of the proclamation regarding families united eternally would begin a lifetime of looking for a holy temple where ordinances and covenants perpetuate family relationships beyond the grave" (pp. 313-318). Our perspective on the family and it's importance as we come to understand for ourselves the principles taught from the family proclamation.
